Marina Bay Sands Hotel, Singapore

This iconic hotel is very near to airport, approx 15 mins by Taxi, so great location to explore city.  Lots of communal areas with shops and a Casino, plus a SkyPark (aka SkyDeck), but we found these and the lobby areas nearly always crowded, with hardly anywhere to sit, so if you are looking for a 5 star hotel with relaxing, quite public areas this one is not recommended. Had to queue for check-in and no welcome drink but room was comfortable (nothing special, more like 4 Star) and spacious, but on sixth floor, opposite the highway, so if you book this floor be prepared for some background road noise. AC a little noisy, but kept room cool. House-keeping excellent and kept room spotless.

Room Key-cards can be temperamental so keep away from your mobile phone in pocket or handbag, unless you enjoy 20 min excursions to lobby with inevitable queues to recharge. Huge infinity pools (x3) with amazing views of city below and beyond, best one on 57th floor. Pools are open from 6am till 11pm, however be aware that they are not heated and can get very crowded during peak times when “selfie” mania takes over. Also not that it can take a few lift changes to get to them depending on where your room is.

The Skypark is great fun, providing a great panoramic view of the city, especially at night. Highly recommend the morning Yoga class just for the fantastic vista. Note that SkyPark is open to public too, not just Hotel guests. If you don’t mind bustling crowds, location, city views and infinity pools are indeed 5 Star, else for service, room and value we’d rate more like 4 Star.
