Burj Khalifa; Tallest building in the world

The Burj Khalifa (برج خليفة‎‎,)

Burj means tower & Khalifa means caliphate or dominion. Standing at 828 m (2,722 ft), you get amazing, albeit dizzying, 360 views of all of downtown Dubai & the famous shore-line. The Burj is not only the tallest building in the world, it’s also home to the highest; Observation deck, Swimming Pool, Elevator, Night Club, Restaurant, ..probably has a lot more world records for highest ???

It’s so tall, that at the observation deck, visitors actually enjoy cooler ambient temperatures (up to 15 degrees cooler) than at ground level. Unoccupied, it weighs a colossal 500,000 tons and cost around $1.5bn to build. Construction of the Burj Khalifa began in 2004, and was completed 5 years later in 2009. Worth reflecting when you are up there, that 20 odd years years ago, the view from the top was mostly desert and now look at it!

It’s easy to make the bookings online, and its cheaper and taller than The Shard, Londonhey if you visit Dubai, splash out, this is a “must do”, else you’ll regret it.

Defo worth a visit and recommend visiting at sunset for some superb photo opportunities from the observation deck. Then when you get back down to earth, delight the senses by experiencing one the Dubai Fountain’s dance show, with water reaching heights  up to 140m choreographed with syncing lights and music. Illuminated by 6,600 lights & 50 coloured projectors water is shot 150 m into the air to make it literally “dance”, accompanied by a range of classical & contemporary music. Evening shows, daily 6pm to 11pm, running every 30 minutes.
